CALP - dockworkers on strike

The City of Genova came to a halt on Nov 28th 2025 as workers, students, and activists launched a general strike against Italy’s complicity in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians and the government’s war financial plan, under Meloni administration.

Organized by @calp_genova dockworkers and the union USB, the strike took also place in several Italian cities as well as internationally.

CALP, long known for blocking arms shipments in the port of Genova, is building an anti-militarist international network of dockworkers connecting solidarity among workers facing exploitations for the sake of capitalism.

Thousands took to the streets, joined by figures such as @gretathunberg , @francesca.albanese.unsr.opt @thiagoavilabrasil , and @yanis.varoufakis , all demanding an end to the genocide perpetrated by Israel in Palestine.

“We will shut down Italy again against the war and the economy of genocide" said USB spokesperson, Francesco Staccioli, echoing Palestinian unions’ call for an arms embargo.

The strike also connected the fight against militarism with low wages, rising living costs, and the Meloni government’s pro-war financial agenda. It will continue with a national rally in Rome on November 29, 2025 demanding an immediate resignation of Giorgia Meloni and a break from Italy’s war-driven economy supporting Israel.
